Bringing Healthcare to the Community
On March 8th, 2026, Equity Heartbeats returned to Gudwara Guru Nanak Sikh Temple in Fairfield for a second comprehensive health screening event. Building on the success of our February initiative, we continued our commitment to removing barriers to healthcare access by meeting people where they are—in spaces they trust and feel welcomed.
The strong community response to our February screenings demonstrated the deep need for accessible, culturally affirming healthcare services. The Gudwara once again provided an ideal venue for this health initiative, and community members continued to embrace the opportunity to take charge of their preventive health.

Our expanded health screening team provided a full range of vital sign monitoring and patient education services throughout the three-hour event. Each participant received a thorough assessment of their current health status and personalized education on managing key health metrics.

Breaking Down Healthcare Barriers
Access to preventive healthcare is a fundamental right, yet many community members face significant barriers—whether due to transportation challenges, language differences, cultural discomfort with healthcare settings, or cost concerns. This screening event continued to address these barriers by:
- Eliminating transportation barriers by bringing services directly to the community
- Creating a culturally affirming space within the Gudwara
- Providing education in an accessible, non-clinical environment
- Offering free screenings with no insurance required
- Building trust through consistent partnership with the community
Impact & Community Feedback
The March 8th health screening was well-attended and demonstrated growing community engagement. Returning participants appreciated the opportunity to:
- Monitor their health progress and track improvements since February
- Receive updated personalized education on managing blood pressure and glucose levels
- Continue learning about alternative healing approaches like osteopathic medicine
- Support their family members in accessing quality healthcare in a trusted community space
The increased participation from both returning and new community members reinforced that our approach is working. When healthcare is brought directly to communities, offered freely, and delivered with cultural respect, people engage and take charge of their health.
